Everyone has that one co-worker who really gets on our nerves, but usually we have to keep it civil. But for certain celebrities,
1. Kiefer Sutherland and Freddie Prinze Jr.
24 was an extremely iconic show, and there were probably a ton of celebrities who would have loved to guest star on the series. However, according to Freddie Prinze Jr., the entire thing wasn't all it was cracked up to be.
I did 24, and it was terrible. I hated every moment of it, he told ABC News. Kiefer was the most unprofessional dude in the world. Thats not me talking trash. Id say it to his face. I think everyone thats worked with him has said that. I went and worked for Vince McMahon at the WWE for Christ's sake and it was a crazier job than working with Kiefer. But, at least he was cool and tall. I didn't have to take my shoes off to do scenes with him, which they made me do [on 24.] Just put the guy on an apple box or don't hire me next time. You know I'm 6 feet and he's 5'4."
Apparently Sutherland was so awful to work with, and Prinze hated the experience so much, he had to take time off from acting because the entire thing made him want to quit the business.
2. Chelsea Handler and Heather McDonald
Chelsea Handler and Heather McDonald worked together for years on Chelsea Lately, even after Handler found out that McDonald was selling stories about her to gossip magazines. In exchange for the stories, McDonald would demand her picture appear in print with Handler. After this, McDonald said she lived in fear of her job every day while working with the late-night comedian.
I lived in fear, 100 percent lived in fear, McDonald during an interview on the Allegedly podcast. I enjoyed my time there, I was happy, but I mean something would happen and my heart would be beating and I would be like, Is this it? you know? And then somehow I just managed to keep surviving.
Handler didn't agree with McDonald's criticism, calling out the fact that McDonald had betrayed her personally.
"I could have fired her. I did not fire her. She had a job for four more years. I never hung out with her personally again. So I hope she was living in fear, said Handler in an interview with Howard Stern. Its not an internment camp. If youre living in that much fear, go get another job. I just thought it was a betrayal I wasnt paranoid, I just withdrew from that whole social scene I withdrew from her. I wouldnt hang out with her, I wouldnt be alone with her...I could never, ever share my personal life with her again.
3. Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey
It's really not clear how no one saw this coming, but when they were judges on American Idol, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj did not get along at all. They would constantly bicker when on the judging panel, and it seemed like it would never end. The two noted divas were asked about their feud at the Teen Choice Awards, and Carey said It was sort of a one-sided thing, to which Minaj said, No, it wasnt. Sounds like these two won't be hanging out any time soon.
4. Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall
This was an extremely well-documented feud, as Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall apparently hated each other while on set of Sex and the City. Things really came to a head when it was announced that the third instalment of the movie franchise was scrapped because Cattrall and Parker couldn't stand each other.
Weve never been friends. Weve been colleagues and in some way, its a very healthy place to be, Cattrall said of Parker. I never asked for any money. I never asked for any projects, to be thought of as some kind of diva is absolutely ridiculous. And this is really where I take to task the people from Sex and the City and specifically Sarah Jessica Parker in that I think she could have been nicer.
Parker didn't feel the same way about Cattrall, though.
I found it very upsetting, Parker said of Cattrall's comments. Thats not the way I recall our experience. So its sad. But I always think that what ties us together is this singular experience. It was a professional experience but it became personal because it was years and years of our life. Im hoping that that sort of eclipses anything thats been recently spoken that that lingers. That many years spent doing something, that people had a connection with it is such a privilege.
Not long after Cattrall's comments, her brother Chris was found dead. Parker commented on Cattrall's Instagram post, saying Dearest Kim, my love and condolences to you and yours and Godspeed to your beloved brother. Xx."
Cattrall then made an entirely separate post saying I dont need your love or support at this tragic time @sarahjessicaparker.
So...third movie is definitely not happening.
5. Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth
The show 90210 is full of drama, and so was the set. Stars Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth were always rumored to be at odds with each other, and it turns out that was true.
"That was 10 years of my life, a big part of my formative years," Garth explained in a recent interview. "This was something instead of high school instead of college we went to the set every day. We were locked in this sound stage for 14-16 hours every day. There were times when we loved each other and there were times when we wanted to claw each other's eyes out."
In her book, Garth admitted that hers and Doherty's conflict had a lot to do with growing up.
"It was more of just young girls finding their way and finding their individual voices. Shannen and I are both Aries women, we're both very strong, independent women, so we butt heads a lot. Now, as grown women, we happen to get along as well."
Garth detailed one of the most explosive moments of their feud in her book, as well.
"One of the great 90210 legends is that Shannen and I actually came to blows one time," she explained. "I will tell you that this never happenedalthough we did come very, very close. We were shooting a scene and Shannen kept grabbing at the hem of my skirt, trying to slap me on the leganything to get me to react and break character. Finally, when she'd pulled up my skirt, and my bare ass was exposed for everyone on the set to see, I did snap and I yelled at her, something to the effect of, 'Come on, bitch! We're talking this outside!'"
Luke Perry and Jason Priestly jumped in before anything else could happen, but Garth and Doherty are now "dear and close friends."
6. Will Smith and Janet Hubert
Fans of Fresh Prince of Bel Air will know that in season 2 of the show, Aunt Viv was played by an entirely new actress. The original Aunt Viv, played by Janet Hubert, was replaced because of her awful feud with lead actor Will Smith. The thing is, Hubert is still mad about it to this day.
[Smith] said, Were just gonna replace her and act like nothing happened, Hubert said years after her departure. Well honey, that is not what happened, is it? The world has let me know that my place on that show was very, very, very loved I felt demonized and beaten up and crucified for many many years, no one came forward in my defense.
7. Lea Michele and Naya Rivera
Glee preached togetherness and happiness, but after the show ended, things began to unravel. Cory Monteith passed away from an overdose after leaving the show, Mark Salling committed suicide in the middle of his investigation for child pornography charges, and (less dramatically), Naya Rivera spilled that she and Lea Michele didn't get along.
If Id complained about anyone or anything, shed assumed I was bitching about her, Rivera wrote. Soon, she started to ignore me, and eventually it got to the point where she didnt say a word to me for all of Season 6. Lea and I definitely werent the best of friends, and I doubt well ever sit on her couch and eat kale together again.
Rivera supposed that Michele "didnt like sharing the spotlight," and said they were "two sides of the same battery." She did admit though that the entire thing was "blown out of proportion" by the media.
8. Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey
The late Patrick Swayze knew how to steal our hearts on screen, but when filming Dirty Dancing, he had issues with Jennifer Grey and how she couldn't keep a straight face.
"We did have a few moments of friction when we were tired or after a long day of shooting. [Grey] seemed particularly emotional, sometimes bursting into tears if someone criticized her," he wrote in his memoir. "Other times, she slipped into silly moods, forcing us to do scenes over and over again when she'd start laughing. I was on overdrive for the whole shoot - staying up all night to do rewrites, squeezing in dance rehearsals, shooting various scenes - and was exhausted a lot of the time. I didn't have a whole lot of patience for doing multiple retakes."
Despite the friction, Swayze did say that Grey did a "truly phenomenal job" in the movie.
9. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams
Yes, they dated for a bit, but Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams were apparently at each other's throats during the filming of their iconic movie The Notebook. According to director Nick Cassavetes, Gosling even asked for McAdams to be recast.
Maybe Im not supposed to tell this story, but they were really not getting along one day on set. Really not. And Ryan came to me, and theres 150 people standing in this big scene, and he says, Nick come here. And hes doing a scene with Rachel and he says, Would you take her out of here and bring in another actress to read off camera with me? I said, What? He says, I cant. I cant do it with her. Im just not getting anything from this."
We went into a room with a producer; they started screaming and yelling at each other. I walked out. At that point I was smoking cigarettes. I smoked a cigarette and everybody came out like, All right lets do this. And it got better after that, you know? They had it out I think Ryan respected her for standing up for her character and Rachel was happy to get that out in the open. The rest of the film wasnt smooth sailing, but it was smoother sailing.
10. Debra Messing and Megan Mullally
Will & Grace fans turn away...but Megan Mullally and Debra Messing allegedly get along so poorly, that's why Karen won't be in the final episodes of the iconic series. It was noted that Mullally was taking a "leave of absence" from the show, and according to a source on the set, "tensions were building for a while."
Not everyone is buying the rumors, though.
It seems crazy. It is crazy! Eric McCormack, who plays Will, said of the alleged feud.. I think people worried about that entirely too much. The four of us get along like a house on fire, we always have.
McCormack may not be totally correct, though. Mullally unfollowed all of her costars on social media, so this house on fire might be burning right to the ground.
11. Julianna Margulies and Archie Panjabi
Even though they were thick as thieves on The Good Wife, apparently Julianna Margulies and Archie Panjabi were constantly fighting on set. Viewers of the Emmy-nominated show noted that Alicia Florrick (Margulies) and Kalinda Sharma (Panjabi) hadn't appeared on screen together for 30 episodesa lengthy amount of time considering how close their characters were on the show (until Kalinda slept with Alicia's husband, that is). To make matters worse, the goodbye scene between the characters wasn't even filmed in the same room with one another. The scene was spliced together after shooting the parts individually.
Margulies responded to those rumors, saying the reason they shot separately was because Panjabi was shooting her other show, The Fall, at the same time and she couldn't be there. Panjabi responded, though, saying "@TheFallTV was not even in production at that time and I was in New York ready to film the scene!
12. Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange
Susan Sarandon starred in a show called Feud with Jessica Lange, so obviously there were going to be questions about whether or not the two were actually feuding. The were co-starring in a docu-drama about famed rivals Joan Crawford and Bette Davis, so questions about the two feuding have only doubled since then. Sarandon responded to these rumors via Twitter.
The #1 question I get in interviews is whether Jessica & I get along. Jess & I not only got along great during filming, were now dating, tweeted Sarandon.I mean, staying in touch. Shes one of the reasons I agreed to do the series. Working with brilliant actors only makes you better.
13. Susan Sarandon and Julia Roberts
What is it about Susan Sarandon that makes people think she's hard to work with? When filming the 1998 movie Stepmom, there were numerous pieces written about how Julia Roberts and Sarandon constantly feuded on set. In 2017, Sarandon tweeted about these rumors and how ridiculous they were.
"Press printed that Julia & I hated each other during Stepmom, the actress said. Found out it was my PR person creating rumors."
Sarandon included a link to an article about how she and Roberts were feuding, and quoted what she said at the time.
"If you make a movie with a male star everyone assumes youre f*****g, she said. "If its a female star, everyone assumes youre fighting.
In the 1998 article, Sarandon dismissed the claims of a potential feud.
Theres got to be something new, she said. It can still be a total lie, because you know nobody wants the truth. I understand that. Ive accepted it. But a better lie? Please?! This is such a yawn.
Roberts also laughed off the accusations.
Actually, Susan and I were kinda hoping that people would say we were f*****g, she said at the time. Now thats delicious cockatil-party fodder. But this? Boring.
Clearly tensions run high on any movie or TV set, but some of these are out of control.
