Sometimes it's low ratings, other times it's personal matters, but when a host decides that their show has run its course there's always a reason. This week, Chelsea Handler made a statement about her show Chelsea, which will be drawing to a close after two seasons.
The show premiered on the popular streaming service Netflix last year and received positive reviews from critics all around. It takes the form of a late-night talk show where the host, Chelsea, discusses topics in the days news, though often with a humorous spin. This is the first time that Netflix has tried this talk show format.
Chelsea has previously been a part of several different talk shows, with a wide range of experiences to back up her talents as a comedian including the popular series Chelsea Lately.
More recently, she was a part of a Netflix documentary series called Chelsea Does that explored cultural habits and taboos in America with a provocative investigative stance.
While this gave her the opportunity to create her latest show, it was her interactions with troubled individuals that made her decide the future of her talk show - and for this reason, she's not looking back.
When she made the announcement, her fans were shocked that they would no longer have the witty remarks that they had grown accustomed to. But while Chelsea defines herself as a comedian, she recognizes that the state of the world demands a more serious viewpoint.
That's why her next project will be in a similar vein to Chelsea Does, and focus more on the political activism perspective that she believes is more important than ever.
She says she was shook by the way politics across America has unfolded in the past year and wants to "devote as much time as I can to becoming a more knowledgeable and engaged citizen".
Chelsea confirmed another Netflix documentary was in the works "where I'll engage with people I don't talk with enough " people of different ethnicities, religions and political philosophies."
For all those who haven't had enough of Chelsea just yet, episodes will continue to stream weekly until the end of the year.
