The New "Lion King" Trailer Is Here And We're Freaking Out

Disney - YouTube

When I heard they were making a new version of The Lion King I think my reaction was very similar to everyone else: Why? Why was Disney taking a classic, near-perfect film and redoing it? Are there no new ideas anymore?

Then the cast was announced. It came out that Donald Glover was voicing Simba, which I thought was amazing. Then they announced that Beyonc was playing Nala...interesting choice. Then James Earl Jones was announced as Mufasa and I just about jumped off my chair.

The film also features Eric Andre as Azizi, Billy Eichner as Timon, Keegan-Michael Key as Kamari, John Oliver as Zazu, Seth Rogen as Pumba, and many more. And while a an all-star cast is a good start, I was still unsure about what the film would be like. After all, The Lion King was (and still is) my favorite Disney movie.

The cast is clearly excited about the film, but of course they would be...they're getting paid big bucks.

"I was freaking out," Eichner admitted about his role in the movie. "I mean, the cast is amazing. Me and Seth Rogen are Timon and Pumbaa, so we do 'Hakuna Matata' and then we also sing 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight' with Simba and Nala, who are going to be voiced by Donald Glover...and someone who is named Beyonc," he joked.

So it all comes down to the trailer. Will this movie live up to the hype? Or will it fall through the cracks? Well the first glimpse just came out and let me tell you...IT LOOKS AMAZING.

We get to see Rafiki!

And a lil' baby Simba having a snooze.

Don't forget the iconic branding of Simba before he's shown to the animal kingdom.

Of which he looks extremely unsure.

Then we get to see a grown-up Simba, who looks too real. is this movie animated? I'm pretty sure they just took footage from a lion documentary.

The trailer also includes the score from Hans Zimmer, and the second you hear iconic "HAAAAAA SABENYAAAAAA" you'll be transported right back to your childhood. What the trailer doesn't show, though, are any other characters you know and love. No Timon, no Pumba, no Mufasa, no Nala. But seeing as the movie isn't coming out until July 19, 2019, I'm sure there are more trailers to come.

I'll admit, I was skeptical when a rebooted Lion King was announced, but now I'm going to be first in line for tickets!

Donna loves spending time in front of the TV catching up on dramas, but in the summer you'll find her in the garden.
