Maleah Davis Remains Are Found In Arkansas Trash Bag

The story of young Maleah Davis is one that has captured the hearts of people worldwide.

Sadly it seems that the search has come to an unfortunate end as her remains have been identified. The remains of a child found last week in Arkansas are those of missing Houston 4-year-old Maleah Davis a the medical examiner confirms.

The search for Maleah Davis began after her stepfather, Derion Vence, told police that he, Maleah and his 2-year-old son were abducted by three men in a blue Chevy truck. He said he was knocked out and when he regained consciousness, Maleah and the familys car were gone.

This later proved to be untrue and Vence was charged with tampering of evidence after investigators said they found a laundry basket, a gas can and a vehicle they believe are connected to the disappearance . NBC also reported that the smell of decomposing human remains was detected in the trunk of a car he had driven.

Derion Vence

Vence is in jail, facing a charge of tampering with evidence, namely a corpse. The Harris County District Attorney released a new statement Monday on his charge.

The defendant remains charged with tampering with a corpse. (A second degree felony punishable by up to 20 years.) Prosecutors continue their review and are working with Houston Police. Additional charges would be filed as the evidence supports doing so. We remain focused on finding the truth and delivering justice for Maleah.

Vence then allegedly confessed to community activist Quanell X that he dumped her body.

"He said he pulled over in Arkansas, got out of the car, walked to the side of the road, and dumped the body off the road,"

After speaking with police Quanell X decided to step away from Maleah's mother Brittany Bowens who up until recently he had been the spokesperson for. You can read what he posted here:

Tim Miller, a volunteer with the search group EquuSearch who helped recover Maleah's remains, told KHOU 11 over the weekend it may be impossible to determine her cause of death, given that the bag containing her remains was run over by lawnmowers.

You can't help but feel like the world failed young Maleah Davis. May she rest in peace.
