Sadly, a 44-year-old Idaho man has allegedly killed an 11-year-old boy in Horseshoe Bend Sunday, March 15, KTVB revealed.
The suspect had no known connection to the family he targeted. Investigators are calling this a random act of violence.
The shooting happened at around 10:25 p.m., March 15, in a trailer park located on Canyon Street in the small town of Horseshoe Bend about 30 miles north of Boise, Idaho.
In an interview with Associated Press, Jon Dufresne, who owns the trailer park, told reporters that the man was firing his gun randomly and pounding on doors.
Just an outsider not from town, doesnt know anybody in the park, just chose this place. Left his car down the road, walked around with a gun shouting, Its the end of the world, Its time to die, things like that, Dufresne said. Eventually one family answered the door, and opened the door, and he shot inside.
The Boise County Sheriff's Office identified the shooting suspect as 44-year-old Benjamin Michael Poirier of Emmett. Evidence markers cover the mobile home park and the area is covered off crime scene tape.
Boise County Chief Deputy Steve Dorau said one of the bullets fired by Poirier struck a child inside the mobile home, killing him. The boy was in fifth grade and had lived at the park for several years.
"He was the sweetest, most polite little boy who always said 'yes, sir' 'no sir' - soft spoken, gentle," he said. "His family was one of the nicest families I know of," said Dufresne.
Benjamin Michael Poirier has been arrested and booked into the Ada County Jail on one count of first-degree murder and a second count of first-degree murder "perpetrated by poison, torture, vengeance, extortion or sadistic inclinations." There were no other victims in this horrific crime.
Benjamin Michael Poirier is being held without bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 30.
In the arraignment the defendant Poirier asked for a speedy trial. The State said that Poirier has an extensive criminal history in Florida and that the defendant followed a family home from a gas station, harassing them. When police encountered the defendant. He ran his car into a propane tank, endangering more people.
A gofundme account has been set up for the young boy's family. He has been identified as Micah Pecyna. This family will need help with final expenses as well as medical bills. The family will not be able to return to the home.
