A questionable quote from President Trump's first wife created some drama in the White House this week.
Ivana Trump was married to the president between 1977 and 1992, and they had three children together - Ivanka, Eric and Donald Jr. The couple went through a messy split after Donald's affair with actress Marla Maples was revealed. Maples later became Trump's second wife.
Now, 15 years later, Ivana is telling her side of the story and sharing her experience as part of America's most famous family in a new tell-all book called Raising Trump. During an interview with ABC to promote the book this week, Ivana reveals she still talks with President Trump every two weeks or so.
"I have the direct number to White House," she said, "but I don't really want to call him there because Melania is there and I don't really want to cause any kind of jealousy or something like that because I'm basically first Trump wife."
Ivana went on to joke that she was "the First Lady," and apparently that didn't sit well with the actual First Lady. Today, Melania issued a statement that shows exactly what she thinks about these comments...
In a statement issued to a number of news outlets, Melania's spokeswoman calls the interview "attention seeking and self-serving noise."
"Mrs. Trump has made the White House a home for Barron and The President," it continues. "She loves living in Washington, D.C. and is honored by her role as First Lady of the United States. She plans to use her title and role to help children, not sell books."
It also says that "there is clearly no substance to this statement from an ex. Unfortunately only attention seeking and self-serving noise." While the comments obviously upset Melania, Ivana writes in the book that she has "no problems...at all" with President Trump's third wife.
While Melania hasn't issued many public statements since taking office, she has made a point of addressing certain issues, including cyberbullying. The First Lady made headlines when she thanked Chelsea Clinton for defending her son Barron from online bullies.
