Former Disney star Selena Gomez has been very open and honest with her mental health struggle.
The "Come and Get It" singer first revealed that she needed to seek treatment for her mental, emotional and physical health in 2014.
Two years later, she announced that she was stepping away from the spotlight to "focus on maintaining my health and happiness"� after suffering from "anxiety, panic attacks, and depression"� as side effects of her lupus.
"I think it's safe to say that all of you know my life whether I like it or not. I had to stop because I had everything and I was absolutely broken inside," she explained while on stage at the American Music Awards. "I kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down. If you are broken, you do not have to stay broken."
Gomez seemed to have bounced back, but earlier this year, after a stressful couple of months recovering from a kidney transplant, dealing with a highly-publicized breakup, and having a fallout with her mother(the two were very close), she once again sought treatment for depression and anxiety.
She reportedly enrolled herself in a two-week program in New York City, where she stayed at the on-site center and underwent therapy, eating a balanced diet, and participated in Pilates and mediation sessions.
"She felt like she needed to get away and focus on herself with no distractions,"� a source close to the former child star told People. "She came back feeling very empowered."�
The source added, "She wants to go again later this year,"� adds the source. "She feels and looks great. She's still working on new music and is excited about it."�
It appears as though the insider knew exactly what they were talking about as the 26-year-old has recently returned to the same psychiatric facility.
Gomez, who recently revealed that depression was "her life" for "five years straight," has reportedly checked herself in after suffering an "emotional breakdown" following two recent hospitalizations related to her Lupus.
According to TMZ, Gomez's white blood cell count was very low and required medical attention.
While the songstress is taking control of her mental health, she confessed to Harper's Bazaar that anxiety and depression are things she doesn't think she'll "ever overcome."
"There won't be a day when I'm like, 'Here I am in a pretty dress"�I won!' I think it's a battle I'm gonna have to face for the rest of my life, and I'm OK with that because I know that I'm choosing myself over anything else."
Gomez's recent breakdown comes not too long after she told her 144 million Instagram followers that she needed "step back" from social media and focus on the "present."
"Update: taking a social media break. Again. As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given. Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember- negative comments can hurt anybody's feelings. Obvi."
This isn't the first time that the 13 Reasons Why executive producer has disappeared from social media. In September 2017, fans became concerned when she suddenly stopped posting content, but it turns out it was because she had the transplant, and experienced some post-surgery complications.
