A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod.
After a jaded magazine writer (Emmy winner Matthew Rhys) is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about empathy, kindness, and decency from Americas most beloved neighbor.
Sony has released the first trailer for the film based on the late Fred Rogers, they are calling it "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.
In the trailer we see school children singing to Mister Rogers on the subway and we see Tom Hanks dressed as the children's television host on the set of "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood."
The film is loosely based on a 1998 Esquire article by Tom Junod, about the effect Rogers' optimistic kindness had on millions of people -- and the initially skeptical journalist himself. Marielle Heller directs the film.
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood comes out this Thanksgiving. Dear Academy: Do us a favor and just save that Best Actor Oscar for Tom. I have a feeling hes going to need it.
