Sour Patch Kids Are Now Available As A Breakfast Cereal

My parents never really let us have candy when we were kids. I didn't care about it that much, until one day my friend let me try some of her Sour Patch Kids. My entire world changed. I needed to have them. They were my new favorite candy and I wanted to consume them whenever I could.

As you can imagine, it was a tough sell on my parents to get them to buy me Sour Patch Kids on a regular basis, but the new announcement from Walmart and Post Cereal has my inner child jumping for joy (and for a cereal bowl!)

That's right, the best sour candy is about to become the best breakfast cereal! Sold exclusively at Walmart, Sour Patch Kids cereal will hit the shelves on December 26th (just in time for Boxing Day) and will only set you back $3.98 a box.

Lee Breslouer, a senior writer for Thrillist, was the first person granted permission to try the upcoming cereal, and his review was extremely promising.

"There's the crunch from a corn/wheat-based sugary breakfast cereal... but something was different! Holy moly, they nailed the sour flavors," Breslouer wrote. "And not in a bad way, because it's also still very much a sugary cereal." He noted that it tastes like "Sour Patch Fruity Pebbles."

There is a down side to the highly-anticipated cereal, though, but it's not that big of a deal.

"They couldn't get each Sour Patch Kid cereal piece to taste different," Breslouer confessed. "There's no orange or raspberry cereal pieces. But they captured the essence of Sour Patch Kids into a cereal! This whole sour flavor is a clear innovation."

My biggest concern, if we're being honest, is how these will taste with milk. The idea of a sour cereal with creamy milk is pretty stomach-turning. But apparently the taste combination isn't as bad as you'd think.

"The milk does not get sour, but it does retain an artificial tartness that tastes pretty good!" Breslouer admitted. "It's like if you made Fruity Pebbles cereal milk and added a magic dusting of that tart flavoring."

Honestly, this cereal sounds kind of intriguing. It's definitely something I'm going to have to try out when it's released. And if internet comments are any indication, it seems like people have mixed emotions on this new released.

"I'm so confused how this would taste," Devyn Smith commented on Instagram.

"Whaaaat?! Omg my mouth started watering from thinking about sour patch," food blogger Bre said.

"I feel like this cereal should come with a warning and a coupon to the dentist's office!" Mason suggested.

"There is no reason for sour patch kids cereal," Chels said on Twitter.

People can judge all they want, but I'd be willing to bet boxes of this cereal will be flying off the shelves.
