White Texas Sheet Cake
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- � tsp baking soda
- 1 cup butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup water
- � cup sour cream
- 1 tsp almond extract
- � cup butter
- � cup 2% milk
- 4 � cups powdered sugar
- � tsp almond extract
- � cup chopped pecans (or walnuts)
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees and spray a 13 x 9 baking pan with cooking spray.
- Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and baking powder. Set aside.
- In a pot combine the butter and water and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and stir into the flour mixture.
- Whisk together the eggs, sour cream and almond extract. Add to the flour mixture and mix until smooth.
- Pour into your greased baking pan and bake for 18-22 minutes.
- To make the frosting combine butter and milk in a pot and bring to a boil.
- Remove from heat and stir in the powdered sugar, almond extract and nuts. Spread the icing over the cake and serve!
- 3/4 lb pork sausage
- 2 2/3 cups flour
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 package active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 cup buttermilk
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
- Cook sausage in skillet until brown and cooked. Drain grease and set aside.
- Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a large bowl. Add shortening and cut until mixture is crumbly. Stir in the sausage.
- In a small bowl dissolve yeast in water and let stand for 5 min. Add buttermilk and stir into the flour and sausage mixture.
- Knead the dough 6-8 times on a floured surface and roll out to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with a 2 inch biscuit cutter and place on greased baking sheets.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes and serve warm.
- 1 1/2 cups fresh okra, sliced
- 3 tbsp buttermilk
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 tbsp cornmeal
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp garlic herb seasoning
- 1/8 tsp pepper
- Pour the buttermilk in a shallow bowl. In another shallow bowl combine the flour, cornmeal, salt, seasoning blend and pepper.
- Dip the okra in the buttermilk and then roll in the dry mixture.
- In a skillet or deep fryer heat your oil to 375 degrees. Fry the okra for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
- Drain on paper towels and serve hot.
- 2 cups water
- 6 black tea bags
- 1/8 tsp baking soda
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 6 cups cold water
- Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan. Remove from heat, add the tea bags, and cover for 10 min. Discard tea bags after 10 min.
- Add the baking soda to a large pitcher.
- Pour the tea in the pitcher, add the sugar and cold water; stir. Refrigerate until chilled and serve with a s lice of lemon.
