Woman Wakes Up To Find Intruder In Her Bedroom

A Florida woman got the scare of her life when she woke up in the middle of the night, to find an intruder in her bedroom.

On Dec. 13, a homeless man broke into Andrea Sofarelli's home by crawling in an unsecured window he had slashed opened, after surveillance footage caught him putting on his gloves, and attempting to jiggle her front door open.

Later identified to be 48-year-old Edwin Figueroa, he made his way to Sofarelli's bedroom, where she was woken up by her dog's barking. Once she came face-to-face with Figueroa, he told her to put a pillow over her head.

"Charlie [her dog] was barking like a maniac. I wake up and I see a silhouette of a man standing at the end of my bed," Sofarelli told WFLA-TV.

"Half asleep, half awake thinking oh God. And then he's telling me to put a pillow over my head and it was my gut instinct that said, you scream at the top of your lungs," Sofarelli continued.

Thankfully, Sofarelli said, her dog would come to her rescue.

When an intruder broke into Sofarelli's bedroom in the middle of the night, the Florida woman said she was afraid for her life. Luckily, she said her dog ended up being her knight in shining armor.

Sofarelli said she believes her dog's barking eventually scared Figueroa away from her house - who ran out by the front door.

Since Sofarelli had a surveillance camera on her property, she was able to post the video on social media, warning her community to stay safe. Eventually someone who saw the footage recognized Figueroa, and he was arrested by Clearwater police.

"The police officers told me, if they didn't have that video because he was wearing gloves, they'd have nothing to go on," she said.

While Sofarelli is thankful Charlie was able to save her life, she said she hopes Figueroa gets what he deserves.

"[I'm] very fortunate. As I said earlier, I rescued him [Charlie]. I feel he saved my life," Sofarelli said. "I hope that he's [Figueroa] in there for a long time now and he's not able to do this to anybody else."

Figueroa has since been charged with occupied residential burglary and grand theft.
